Trace each aluminum door on the door schedule to an elevation and to head, jamb, and sill details, then compare its type (full glazed stile and rail or flush), the frame anchors drawn, the glazing called for, weatherstripping at exterior doors, and any louver against the issued Section 08 11 16. Then check that hardware is coordinated with Section 08 71 00 and that any antiterrorism or windborne debris criteria the section keeps are reflected in the openings they apply to.
Assemble the review package
Gather the door schedule, door and frame type elevations, head, jamb, sill, mullion, and transom details, the floor plans with door numbers, the hardware sets, the glazing schedule, the exterior wall and air barrier details, the antiterrorism or wind design criteria, and the issued Section 08 11 16 with Sections 08 71 00, 08 81 00, and 08 41 13 if adjacent storefront is used. Review one entrance from the schedule through its details before assuming the other aluminum openings match.
WBDG publishes UFGS 08 11 16: Aluminum Doors and Frames as a public guide-specification reference (accessed October 21, 2026). Use your project’s issued specification and amendments for the actual comparison; the guide specification does not automatically govern your project. The checklist below is an original suggested review workflow, not a reproduction of the UFGS requirements.
Eight checks to run against the issued set
Use one record per location or system. The CSV contains the same eight prompts plus fields for source revisions, observed evidence, the review owner, the decision, and closure references.
| Check | Sources to compare | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Door numbers and types | Doors and Frames article + door schedule + floor plans | Does every aluminum door on the plans have a unique schedule number, and does the schedule say whether it is a full glazed stile and rail door or a flush door? |
| Flush door construction | Flush Doors article + door schedule + elevations | Where flush aluminum doors are scheduled, does the issued section keep a construction option that suits the opening, including any glass or louver cutouts the elevation shows? |
| Frames, transoms, and sidelites | Aluminum Frames and Doors and Frames articles + elevations + Section 08 41 13 | Are transoms and sidelites drawn as part of the door frame or as adjoining storefront, and is the scope boundary with the storefront or curtain wall section clear? |
| Anchors and mullion reinforcement | Anchors articles + head, jamb, and sill details | Do the details show the anchor type and spacing the designer notes ask for, and where mullions are reinforced to structure, is the overhead support drawn? |
| Hardware preparation | Provisions for Hardware article + hardware sets + Section 08 71 00 | Are concealed closers, integral push bars, electric strikes, power operators, or panic devices for narrow stiles identified so the door can be prepared at the factory? |
| Glazing provisions | Provisions for Glazing article + glazing schedule + Section 08 81 00 | Does each glazed door show a glass thickness and type that matches the glazing schedule, with glazing beads on the side the section selects? |
| Weatherstripping, sealing, and flashing | Weatherstripping and Sealing Around Assemblies articles + sill and jamb details | Do exterior door details show weatherstripping, a threshold coordinated with the hardware, and the air barrier seal and flashing the section asks for? |
| Blast, debris, and dissimilar materials | Minimum Antiterrorism Performance, Wind Borne Debris, and Protection from Dissimilar Materials articles + design criteria | If antiterrorism or windborne debris criteria are retained, do they apply to the openings the criteria identify, and is protection shown where aluminum meets steel, concrete, or masonry? |
Worked example: an inner vestibule door with no debris criteria
Illustrative example: a building with antiterrorism criteria has a two-door vestibule at its main entrance. The issued Section 08 11 16 keeps the Minimum Antiterrorism Performance article for the exterior doors, but the Wind Borne Debris paragraph was deleted, and the door schedule lists the inner vestibule doors as standard interior aluminum doors with no reference to the criteria.
Ask the architect and the antiterrorism or structural engineer whether the inner doors must resist debris from the outer doors, as the section’s designer note on vestibules describes. Then restore or confirm the deletion in the specification, and mark the inner and outer vestibule doors on the schedule with the criteria that apply to each.
Avoid a false conflict
An aluminum entrance often appears on both the storefront elevation and the door schedule. Confirm which section the door, its frame, and its sidelites are bought under before raising a conflict, since the same opening can legitimately be split between Sections 08 11 16 and 08 41 13.
When requirements disagree, follow the project’s document-control and clarification process. Do not assume that drawings always override specifications, or the reverse. Identify the exact sources and request an authorized decision.
Close the issue across the affected documents
Record the location or tag, drawing and specification references, issue dates, observed difference, and the decision needed. Assign an owner and keep the item open until the response identifies the governing requirement. Check the revised drawings and specification references together; a response email alone may leave the issued package inconsistent.
For the overall process, use the guide to drawing and specification conflicts. Mark an inapplicable checklist row with a reason, and distinguish a verified correction from a question that still needs design information.
Where Groundbook fits
Groundbook’s drawing and specification review helps investigate potential disagreements in the documents you supply. Include the relevant specification sections and drawing references, then verify the cited evidence with the responsible reviewers before acting on a finding.
