Check glazing specifications against window schedules

A window mark may identify a frame type without fully defining its glass. Follow the glazing designation through elevations, schedules, and the specification before comparing performance or ordering information.

Map every reviewed window or glazed opening to its glass type and applicable specification selection. Compare the glass build-up, performance-value basis, special design requirements, and framing interfaces for the same location and configuration.

Assemble the review package

Assemble window schedules, elevations, glazed-opening details, glass-type legends, and the issued glazing specification. Include the relevant energy-design inputs and any project-specific protective glazing information. Distinguish the glass itself from the complete window or curtain-wall assembly when reading performance requirements.

Use your project’s issued specification and amendments for the actual comparison; the guide specification does not automatically govern your project. Worked example: one value, two different scopes

Illustrative example: the window schedule lists a thermal value for a complete window, while product information supplied for review gives a center-of-glass value. Both appear beside the same glass tag. A reviewer could incorrectly treat the smaller number as evidence that the scheduled requirement is satisfied.

Record the stated scope of each value and request comparable whole-product information for the scheduled configuration. If the proposed glass build-up changes, recheck the frame and perimeter details as well. Keep the item open until the comparison uses the same basis; a matching tag alone does not establish matching performance.

Avoid a false conflict

Similar appearance does not make glazing types interchangeable. Avoid treating words such as safety, fire-protective, fire-resistant, or security as a single category. Identify the exact project requirement and ask qualified reviewers to confirm the proposed assembly against it.

When requirements disagree, follow the project’s document-control and clarification process. Do not assume that drawings always override specifications, or the reverse. Identify the exact sources and request an authorized decision.

Close the issue across the affected documents

Record the location or tag, drawing and specification references, issue dates, observed difference, and the decision needed. Assign an owner and keep the item open until the response identifies the governing requirement. Check the revised drawings and specification references together; a response email alone may leave the issued package inconsistent.
